First, a little about me
First time booking with me? I'm SO excited to meet you! My name is Lily, I'm a mama of two, wife of a craft beer brewer, and I am obsessed with preserving your memories for you. Being a mama myself I know just how important those seasonal or yearly photos are. Those kids grow fast! So let's preserve them just the way they are.
Some important info about minis:
up to 5 people
These sessions work best for immediate family only. Since we have a limited amount of time, we want to make the most of every precious minute.
Arrive on time
Speaking of making the most of our time, make sure you're there and ready to go at your scheduled time. I recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early to avoid being late. Because these sessions are back to back, any time missed comes out of your session to be fair to my next client.
turnaround time
So when can you expect to see your photos? Be on the lookout for a sneak peak a couple days after your session via instagram and facebook. Your full gallery will be delivered to you by email within 14 days.
Preparing for your mini session
planning your wardrobe
choose your palette
Choose 2-3 colours that you absolutely love and go well together. Think of the season, the colours in your home, and what colours and tones look great on you. I recommend a couple cohesive colours paired with some neutrals. Pinterest is a great resource for this! Trying searching "holiday colour palette" and see what catches your eye.
coordinate - don't match
I highly recommend putting everyone in a different coloured top at minimum. This helps us avoid your family looking like one person with multiple heads. You also want everyone to stand out in their own way. When in doubt - go neutral.
what to avoid
Logos, multiple busy prints, neons or fluorescent colours should all be avoided to keep your photos timeless and cohesive. This is also not the time for baseball caps, or sunglasses - sorry dad! Make the most of your photos and go a bit more formal than you normally dress.
PREPPING children
rested with full bellies
The recipe for happy kids. Make sure your kids get a good nights sleep, nap if they're still in that age group, and have a good meal before our session. The promise of ice cream after is always a good motivation tool too. I will also have a small selection of holiday themed treats to enjoy before or after your session.
LET THEM BE KIDS
My absolute favourite photos of my kids are the ones that showcase who they really are. Running, playing, jumping, snuggling and kisses are all a part of being a kid. Don't stress about getting them to smile at the camera. The more we let them be themselves the more fun they are bound to have, and the more genuine smiles I'll be able to capture. Plus, the less you stress about it - the more fun you will have too.
preparing yourself
Photos are a great excuse to go get your hair or nails done, break out the fancy lashes and buy that beautiful new dress you've had your eye on. But keep in mind - beauty shines through best when you are relaxed and happy. Take some time for yourself the morning of your session, prepare early so you're not stressing about getting everyone out the door and delegate whatever tasks you can. Enjoy this special time with your family and have fun!
